Those of you outside of the Thompson/Okanagan area may not have noticed that a Symposium (a 1-day session of seminars, with lots of fellowship) has taken place each of the last 6 years in this area. It was started by the Shuswap Lake Aero Modelers in Blind Bay. It has moved around the area and has been hosted by the Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton clubs. Participants have an opportunity to take part in any 3 or 4 of 9-12 seminars offered. The seminars are given by fellow modelers who have expertise in certain areas of the hobby.

This year it will be hosted once again by The Shuswap Lake Aero Modelers. Besides offering the usual 1-day package of seminars on Saturday February 25th, we are this year offering an optional weekend package which goes from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, February 24th to 26th. It is our hope that by offering this weekend option, that it may make it possible for modelers from the LOWER MAINLAND, the KOOTENAYS, the CARIBOO and so on, to share the event with us. Full details are below. The program will be available at and will be distributed in a ZONEWS by February 1st.

How about making a weekend out of it?
The facilities at the Camp have recently been upgraded. There are 14 separate rooms which can accommodate 5 persons each. Because 2 of the beds are bunks, it is suggested that 3 per room should be maximum. Each room has a private bath. You bring your own sleeping bag, pillow and towels.
The oustanding part of all this is that the weekend package which included 2 nites accommodation, 5 meals, 4 coffee breaks, and all seminar sessions is just $89 per person. Spouses welcome.

Space is limited. Saturday reservations and PAID weekend reservations must be received by Friday February 10th, 2006

All clubs have now received their club renewal packages. Many clubs have already renewed. For those that have yet to do so, I would ask that you attend to this as soon as possible. The MAAC insurance, both individual member insurance, and club field insurance expires at midnight, December 31st. Even if there is no flying activity at this time, it is best to get it done now.

Some time back I mentioned that it would be a good idea to make a weatherproof sign, coreplast is fine, which had your field’s GPS location on it. Emergency vehicles use GPS a lot nowadays to find remote locations. It’s just good policy to have it posted at your field. The time it will save could just make the difference.
You may have noticed there is also a place for it on your 2006 club renewal form as well.

Best regards,
Doug MacMillan
