Zone Director Bio
Zone Director Zone C (BC)
My love for aircraft came from multiple events throughout my life. I do believe it's in my blood, just look at my last name! As a young boy in 1974 we moved to Canada from Liverpool England, I was told I was never so quiet as I fully enjoyed the jet ride to Canada. A number of years later my wife of the past 20 years purchased a Kadet 3 channel trainer for me and my then 7 year old son and I haven't looked back since, almost 12 years ago! I can not describe in words how valuable this hobby has been to me. Throughout many difficult times in my life I have always had R/C aircraft and equally important, the support of the club and the members within it. I have a number of years volunteering on an executive level, 3 years as an Assistant Zone Director and two as a Deputy Zone Director. My largest objective, to maintain what we have! Looking forward to meeting you at the field!

Q: I would like to learn more about our MAAC insurance
| Answer: On the left hand side of the page you will see a link called Insurance Advisory. Click on that link, you'll see the contact information for the Insurance Chair and a "group documents" and a "group FAQ" link. There is a lot of reading within those two sections. Further questions can be forwarded to the Assistant Zone Director servicing your area or the Deputy Zone Director or Zone Director. In many cases it is best to go straight to the Insurance Committee Chairperson as he and his team are professionals with the greatest knowledge! |
Q: I would like to start a club, what do I have to do?
| Answer: On the main MAAC page under the link "Library" click on "Forms and Documents" then click on the current year "club renewal package". The forms you need to start a new club are the "Club Affiliate Charter Membership Application" and the "Club Registration Form". Certain guidelines have to be met in order for the flying site to receive approval. Familarize yourself with the MAAC general Safety Code and the MAAC Safety Guidelines. I would recommend you contact the Assistant Zone Director servicing your area so they can discuss it in greater detail with you. The forms and documents listed above should get you on the right track. It is not a hard process at all. |
Q: I have a concern, do I have to wait until the Zone Meeting to share it?
| Answer: Absolutely not, never hesitate to contact your Assistant Zone Director your Deputy Zone Director or the Zone Director. The contact information is above and under the Dept/Asst. ZD's tab. |
Q: I want to join a club, what do I do?
Answer: Congratulations, becoming a member of an R/C Club is one of the main ingredients for success in this sport/hobby! All of the approved clubs throughout the country require you to become a MAAC member and to educate yourself on the MAAC safety guidelines. On the tabs above click on "Zone Info" then click on "Zone Clubs List" This is a list of the MAAC registered clubs within BC and the Yukon. The clubs are very well versed in welcoming new members and getting you set up. To receive direct assistance click on
"Is there any MAAC reps in my area that can assist me". Joining a club is well worth the effort. |
Q: I am returning to the hobby , can I have my original MAAC number back?
Answer: Welcome back, depending on how long ago you were a member in good standing there is a large chance you can get your original number back.
Contact the MAAC head office at (905)632-9808 |
Q: Where can I find more information?
| Answer: At the top of this page in the right top corner you can find a MAAC FAQ section for more answers to frequently asked questions! |
Q: Where is the events list?
| Answer: At the top of this page you will see an events tab, hover your mouse over the tab and choose list view or calendar view and then click the area you wish to see! |
Q: Where do I go to sanction an event online?
| Answer: At the top of this page you will see the "Events" tab. Hover your mouse over the tab and click on "Register an Event". In order to register an event you must have a MAAC members account set up. All events must be sponsored by a MAAC registered club. All events being sanctioned must be done by a member of the sponsoring club's executive. If an event is being sanctioned by a MAAC member we will require approval by the sanctioning members club. If you are not a member of a club and you are attempting to sanction an event special arrangements must be made prior to approval. Contact your local Zone Director. |
Q: How do I start my own MAAC member area website account?
Answer: You must be a MAAC member in good standing. Click on the "Members" link to the left of this page. Click on "My Account" and then click on
"To access member area you must create an account . Click here to create your account". Then follow the on screen instructions. |
Q: Where is the MAAC Safety Code located?
Answer: Here is a direct link to the MAAC Safety Code
http://www.maac.ca/docs/2008/the_general_safety_code.pdf |
Q: What do I do when/if I have an accident with a model aircraft and cause some damage as a result of a crash
Answer: - Please do not discuss or admit to responsibility as this
could compromise our position
- Arrange for medical attention immediately if required.
- Trainer or club executive member on site, if available,
to take control of incident (This will be
the contact person for the Adjuster, and that individual
will be responsible for the gathering
of information)
- If few people are present and no club executive, attempt
to make contact. Remind them to
bring a camera and paper and pen if needed as well as an
Incident Report form if there are
none at the field, to assist in obtaining the necessary
information.
- If an INJURY is involved and it is after MAAC office
hours (Mon – Fri 8:00am – 4:30pm
EST), our Crawford & Co. adjusters are to be notified
immediately and directly by calling
their 24/7 Claims Alert number at 1-888-224-5677. Do not
use this number if there is just
property damage or if a member has injured himself only.
- Notify the Zone Director of the incident.
- Take photographs of where the incident happened, as the
scene existed at the time of the
incident, and/or of the property damage/injury caused.
- Remove any potential hazards from the scene, after being
photographed, to prevent further
incidents. All components of the aircraft that caused the
damage and the transmitter must be
kept for the adjusters inspection, do not throw away or
attempt to repair parts.
- Obtain information on injured party, or party who
sustained the property damage – i.e.
- Name
- Address
- Phone # and or Person to contact
- Their version of what happened.
- An executive of the club where the incident occurred is
to fill out an Executive Incident
Report (on MAAC website).
- Obtain names, addresses, and phone #’s of all witnesses
and their relationship to claimant, if
any.
- Have members witnessing the incident fill out an Incident
Witness Report (on MAAC
website) with all details of what they saw.
- Complete the INCIDENT REPORT FORM on the MAAC website. It
can be completed “on
line” or can be “faxed” to MAAC Headquarters (fax #905-
632-3304). The office will
confirm membership status of club/member(s) involved.
- A $500 deductible is payable to MAAC by the member/MAAC
Club involved in the incident.
MAAC Club portion is $250 and member pays the other $250.
The MAAC Club is responsible for paying the entire $500
to MAAC by cheque as quickly as possible and may be
paid by credit card when faxing the drawing portion of
the incident form to headquarters.
Member/Club deductible payments are accepted by MAAC on
a “without prejudice” basis
pending completion of the investigation.
- Once the incident has been reported to the Insurance
Company, no further contact or
discussions should be held with the claimant. Refer them
to MAAC or the Adjuster only.
Our adjuster “Crawford &Co. (Canada) Inc.” will contact
the modeller and the claimant(s).
- If litigation follows, contact the MAAC Head Office
immediately for instructions and
- Advise the following means of service: Type of service –
i.e. bailiff, registered mail, or
regular mail and the Date and Time on which it was served.
Note: The above gives an outline of what to do when an
incident occurs. All
incidents should be reported whether a claim results or
not. Only by examining what
we do can we improve the safety of the hobby. We can only
learn from our
experiences so help others to learn and let us know what
is happening out there.
