Mike Anderson has been chasing the same rush since the 1970s, when a Cox .049 control line model taught him that gas, smoke, and altitude are a pretty unbeatable combination. Life got in the way for a couple of decades (career, marriage, all that), until his wife Gwen looked at him one day in 2000 and said, basically, "go get a hobby." He never looked back.
These days Mike flies big: giant-scale models, turbine jets, and any aerobatics routine he can find an excuse to practice. He's raced pylon, flown discus launch, and competed in F5J, F5B, and ALES glider events, so if it moves fast or glides long, he's probably tried it.
Off the flight line, Mike has spent years making sure the rest of us get to keep doing this safely. He's a Leader Member since 2011 and has held nearly every leadership role MAAC has to offer: club president at Phelan RC Flying Club (2018 to 2022), Assistant and then Deputy Zone Director, Zone Director, founding chair of the Finance Advisory Group, Treasurer, and MAAC President in 2022 to 23. He previously chaired the RC Electric and Large Model committees, and now serves as Secretary and Governance Advisor.
By day (well, formerly), Mike was the Quality Leader, Americas, for GE Nuclear Steam Power, overseeing quality management across GE's nuclear service fleet. As an engineering technologist with a background in systems design and project management, he brings the same rigour to MAAC's governance that kept nuclear plants running safely.
