Thermal Workshop
Description de l'événement
"Our annual Sailplane Thermal Workshop has become a popular event. This event is open to all MAAC members. If you are not yet an accredited MAAC pilot, please contact us in advance so that we can make appropriate coaching arrangements to include you in the flying portion of the Event.
The Workshop starts at 10 AM sharp. Persons intending to participate in the flying activity will need to bring their MAAC membership card and their own electric-sailplane, or hi-start/winch-launched sailplane. Launching tackle will be supplied by SOGGI. SOGGI members having hi-starts or winches are requested to please bring them.
The Workshop will consist of 15 minutes of thermal theory, including a physical demonstration of thermal behaviour using thermal streamer poles and open discussion about how to intercept the Lift, now that you know how to find it.
A Pilots' Meeting will then be held concerning the flying portion of our event. Airplanes will be assembled, and a flightline will be set up. We will fly with the following objectives:
-to find and exploit a thermal using the techniques learned at the Workshop
-to make a precision landing
-to do these two things over and over, and over again. You may wish to bring your lunch.
To receive directions to our flying site, please e-mail CD Bob Hammett at [email protected] , or ph 226-401-1966. It also helps us if we know how many people to expect.
We hope to see you there.
(The raindate for this event is 10:00 AM Sunday May 24)"
