Mar 24, 2025
One thing’s for sure—March 2025 is far from boring!
I've been following many of your discussions across social media, and while I'd love to clarify a few things, let's start with this—social media is not where we manage an organization. It's a great place for conversations, but MAAC doesn’t make decisions based on social media discussions.
Yes, some past decisions weren’t popular. If you want to talk about them and their future, reach out to your Zone Director. The Board of Directors (BOD) is committed to keeping discussions positive and productive, and we will not engage in negative debates or arguments on social media.
For official communication, only the MAAC Official Facebook page is recognized—and even that is not a final communication channel. There are plenty of other forums out there, but MAAC cannot guarantee that discussions outside official channels will be taken seriously. That said, with our new website launching soon, we’ll have our own forum, managed by MAAC and aligned with our values and policies.
If you want to start a positive discussion about aeromodelling and MAAC, we’re more than happy to engage!
Elections & Leadership Updates
Following the March 10, 2025, elections for Vice President and Executive positions, I’ve seen some comments about the process and the elected officers. Most of your comments have been positive, and I truly appreciate that—thanking those who dedicate their time to this hobby means a lot.
But let’s clear up how these elections work:
A Zone Director can serve a maximum of three consecutive two-year terms. If a Director steps down mid-term, their replacement serves until the next general meeting of the Zone members.
If a President steps down or is not re-elected, but wants to run for President again, they must first be re-elected as a Zone Director . Also, any former Zone Director who has served their three consecutive terms cannot serve in any zone leadership role (Assistant, Deputy, or Director) for a minimum of two years.
In-Person Board Meetings
Twice a year, the Board meets in person for a two-day session. These meetings are crucial because they allow us to:
One of these meetings happens in November. The other is linked to the AGM.
And as I mentioned earlier, the in-person governance meeting in mid-November is now locked in every year, starting with November 14, 2025.
This timing is intentional—it happens right after all AZMs are done (AZMs take place between September 1 and October 31). This will be the first time newly elected Directors meet at the national level after the AZMs.
Typical Agenda for this Meeting:
Welcoming Our New Leadership Team
Please join me in thanking Randy Hepner and Grant Robinson for their dedicated service as Executive members, including Randy’s role as Vice President.
Let’s also welcome and congratulate our new leadership team:
Thank you all for stepping up to serve MAAC!
Board of Directors Meetings
The Board of Directors meets once a month to handle regular operational duties. These meetings are open to members and usually take place on the first Monday of each month via Microsoft Teams. Occasionally, scheduling conflicts require adjustments, but we aim to maintain this schedule.
Typical Open BOD Meeting Agenda:
While this is the standard format, we sometimes invite special guests, and as President, I may add or remove agenda items when necessary. Meetings typically last about 30 minutes.
Current MAAC Priorities
The Board is actively working on four key areas:
Final Thoughts
MAAC is moving forward.
The past is the past—yes, we must learn from it, but we can’t build our future if we dwell on it.
Whatever happened before, we can’t change. But we can learn from it, move forward, and build something better.
Let’s focus on where we’re going—because that’s where the future is.
Looking forward to a great year ahead!
Alain Carpentier
MAAC President
